StorageCrypt

Flash drives are becoming more and more popular due to the fact that they are very easy to use. But someone can access your data without your permission with the same ease. Whatever the reason, if you want to protect your data, StorageCrypt is a tool that might interest you. It will protect any data by encrypting and hiding it and it can only be restored with a password.

You can have the software up and running in less than a minute. First, you need to download a 3.48 Mb setup file, which should not be too much even for a slow Internet connection. After downloading, you can install it rapidly by going through a straightforward setup wizard.

StorageCrypt will detect all types of drives, using file systems like Fat12, Fat16, Fat32, exFAT or NTFS, and it will list them on the upper left area of its compact interface. When plugging in a new device, you will have to refresh the list by clicking the designated option in the File menu.

To encrypt a drive, you only need to select its entry in the list, type in a password, in the lower left area of the window, and click the Encrypt button. The process will not take long and when it's done, your flash drive will look like it is blank. To restore the data, you need to type the password again and click the Decrypt button.

StorageCrypt is also portable. This means that there is no need to install it on other computers in order to encrypt or decrypt your data. Before encrypting it, you can opt for a full or an one time only portable use, by clicking one of the radio buttons on the upper right area of the interface. This will copy the software's critical files on your flash drive. When you plug it in another person's computer, you will still be able to use StorageCrypt to access or protect your data. It is also possible to encrypt entire disk partitions. The hard drive will be displayed as an entry on the main interface and after selecting it, you can also select one of its partitions in the lower right area of the window. After selecting a partition, you can encrypt it the same way as a flash drive.
